We have all heard of summer schools, and over the last few years there’s been an increase in summer school offerings. From visits to international countries for summer language programmes to summers spent learning more about specialist interests. They are a great way to expand upon and supplement a child’s work from the academic year. At Ardmore, we (are juniors specialist) specialise in language and give you (YOUR STUDENTS) not only the full language experience but the cultural experience too by spending the vacation weeks with us in the UK (US, Canada & Ireland) at a number of venues.

The results from summer schools can be shown in a recent report from TASO, who found that ‘students who attend summer schools are more likely to receive better grades and progress to higher education’.

In this blog, we want to take a closer look at why summer schools are such as useful experience for students in today’s world.

Why do people choose a summer school?

1 – Develop your language skills

The main perk, especially at an Ardmore summer language programme, is developing their language skills in the native environment. Summer schools combine classroom learning with the ability to put skills to the test and fully immerse students in a culture, helping to fully embrace the country you are in.

2 – Interactive Learning

As mentioned above, giving students the ability to fully immerse themselves in the culture and country they are visiting will give them the opportunity to use their new skills immediately in real-world scenarios. Alongside this, the smaller classroom environments enable more opportunities for teacher to student interactions during classroom exercises.

3 – Improve confidence

The opportunity to study abroad is one that many will find exciting. It’s a chance to become more independent and for students to see what life might be like if they choose to enrol in higher education.

4 – Make your application stand out

Competition can be tough for higher education placements and extra experiences like this can help boost applications above many in a competitive market. Summer school experiences demonstrate that students are dedicated and are also working on self-improvement.

5 – Experience of a lifetime!

It’s likely to be an incredibly rewarding experience not only educationally but also on a social level. Students  will get to fully immerse themselves with their peers and experience an adventure together through many fun activities. We know many staff and students who have made friends during their time at Ardmore, who they continue to remain in contact with.

We have a range of summer courses and programmes that may interest your students, which include specialist programmes and excursions to historic locations. Make sure to research different summer schools and see what locations and courses they offer that will best suit your needs in the upcoming months. (try to move the focus on Ardmore programmes and centres, and perhaps suggest to research among our offered programmes before making a decision or something similar)

At Ardmore we like to offer many opportunities to suit a variety of need, whether you’re looking to accommodate groups or individuals and are likely to have one that will spark your interest. Take a look at our summer programmes and see where your students might be heading this year.
