Confidence Building

Studying abroad is a huge decision, and the experience is far more than just taking notes in a different classroom. It impacts every part of a student’s life. As a student, it can be nerve-wracking to wonder whether you will fit in with the others, be able to make friends and adjust to a new environment.

Fortunately, studying abroad, by definition, goes a long way toward facilitating those processes. The experience will encourage new social interactions and make students feel far less awkward by the time the semester ends. In short, we can say that studying abroad is an experience to advance your student’s self-confidence. How? Here is the answer.

Students who decide to study abroad open themselves up to many new experiences. Not only are they experiencing a whole new culture but also new self discovery moments along the way.

Making friends

By studying abroad you leave many of your home comforts behind. From family to friends it can be quite an isolating experience if you do not open yourself up to those around you. During their trip they will have to communicate with those in their class, potentially a host family and teachers. Each of these areas has the opportunity for them to build their communication skills and feel more confident in their ability to navigate new social situations.

Exploring Independence

When studying abroad students will find themselves more and more responsible for their own actions. Make sure they attend their classes, travel to and from accommodation, and make the most of their free time. All of these are opportunities where students will learn to embrace their independence and focus on their responsibilities.

Building Confidence

Studying abroad is an amazing opportunity for students to build confidence. Most of the situations they will encounter are something they have no context for. It might be the language barriers or even the cultural differences. Most of the students who attend will be in similar situations and encourage each other to embrace the experience and make the most of their time abroad.

It’s important to remember there is so much more to learn while studying abroad than what is included in the curriculum. Students leave with greater self-discovery and increased independence and social skills.
